Bedfordshire Police and Bedford Borough Council have secured a closure order on five plots at a traveller’s site in Cardington following reports of criminal activity.
Officers carried out a raid at the Willow Drift travellers’ site in Meadow Lane on 13 December. Nine men and four women were arrested on suspicion of drug offences and later bailed.

The following day, Bedford Borough Council was granted a three-month property closure order for five plots at the site.
Superintendent Mark Upex, of the operation’s command team, said: “An investigation is now underway. We have a duty of care to the other residents, and to the wider local community, to ensure people can live safely, peacefully and lawfully.”
