At Progress Publishing, the people behind the Bedford Independent and Bedford Clanger, we believe independent local news is part of our community’s ecosystem, free from political, commercial or wealthy proprietors’ influence.

We don’t believe readers should be treated like commodities or forced behind a paywall without choice. That’s why our journalism remains free to read and open to everyone. But we also know that meaningful local reporting can no longer survive on traditional advertising alone.

Terms and conditions

Thank you for supporting the Bedford Independent and Bedford Clanger.

By setting up a donation, you are helping Progress Publishing continue to provide independent local journalism for Bedford Borough.

These terms explain how your donation works, how you can cancel, and how we will use your contact details.

Donation payments

Your donation will be collected securely through Stripe.

The amount you choose will be taken at the frequency shown at the point of payment, unless you cancel your donation.

You are responsible for ensuring the payment details you provide are accurate and up to date.

Recurring donations

If you set up a recurring donation, your payment will continue until you cancel it.

You can cancel your donation at any time. Cancellation will stop future payments, but it will not refund payments already made.

Cancellations

You can cancel your recurring donation using the cancellation link provided in your confirmation email or by contacting us directly.

We will process cancellation requests as soon as reasonably possible.

If a payment is already being processed when you cancel, that payment may still be taken.

Refunds

Donations are voluntary contributions to support our journalism.

Because donations help fund our ongoing work, payments are not refundable once made.

However, if you believe a payment has been taken in error, or if you have made a mistake, please contact us as soon as possible, and we will review the issue fairly.

Failed payments

If a recurring payment fails, Stripe may try to collect the payment again.

If payment cannot be collected, your donation may be paused or cancelled.

Daily email

When you set up a donation, you will also be subscribed to the Bedford Independent daily email.

This helps keep supporters updated on the local journalism their donations help provide.

You can unsubscribe from the daily email at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email we send you.

Unsubscribing from the daily email will not cancel your donation. Cancelling your donation will not automatically unsubscribe you from the daily email.

How we use your information

We will use the information you provide to process your donation, manage your supporter relationship with us, and send you the Bedford Independent daily email.

Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your full card details. You can read Stripe’s privacy policy here.

We will handle your personal information in line with our privacy policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time.

The version in place when you set up your donation will apply unless we need to make changes for legal, regulatory, payment processing or operational reasons.
