Two of the founders of Foxy Wings have issued a heartfelt statement to update their customers and supporters following the fire that impacted their business and neighbouring properties in the Riverside Bedford community.
Matt and Gabs Pearson took to Instagram on Tuesday (20 June) to express their gratitude for the ongoing support they’ve received since the fire on 27 May.

In the video, Gabs describes the previous few weeks as “hellish” and said that the fire “is definitively the hardest hurdle they’ve had to overcome”.
While the cause of the fire is still officially listed as unknown, investigations suggest that a stack of laundered tea towels may have been involved. This theory is supported by CCTV footage obtained.
Matt said: “The kitchen is unrecognisable and we’re devastated that it affected some of the residents. We’re discovering the road to recovery is long – and it could take as long as 12 months.
“It feels very cruel and unfair; last year was so difficult but we’ll rally again. Please stick with us.”
“Timelines for reopening the business are yet to be determined, but we have been advised that it could take between nine to 12 months,” said Gabs, who, along with the team, has built up the Foxy Wings vision from the grassroots with a deep love for Bedford and a belief in the power of small businesses.
The impact of the incident has also been felt by their dedicated team of servers and chefs – affectionately known as Team Foxy.
“Saying goodbye for now to Team Foxy has been an incredibly difficult decision,” said Matt.
“We have been privileged to work with such a great bunch of people. Together, we built a kind and genuine workplace, which is so uncommon for hospitality. I feel proud to have worked with this team and hope we can work together again.”
Since giving the update on social media, Matt, Gabs and the team have received an influx of messages from loyal Foxy customers.
From fellow independent Bedford business owners to long-time supporters, even local celebrities have reached out to offer well wishes, practical support, and enthusiasm for a Crowdfunder round two.
“The outpouring of support and offers of assistance from the community has been totally overwhelming,” said Gabs. “Even in this deep grief, we are so grateful to receive messages of encouragement, hope and optimism.
“It showed me that there is a longing for connection in this town. Bedford has been so good to us – as crowdfunder supporters, as customers and cheerleaders.
“As we navigate this next part of the journey, we will not forget the strong community spirit in this town, and we hope we can rise again, and make you guys proud.’’
While there are immense challenges ahead and the devastating loss they have experienced, they are resolute in their determination to overcome this adversity.
Matt and Gabs assure their loyal customers and followers that they will continue to provide updates on their progress via their social media accounts on Instagram and Facebook.
