A restaurant at Riverside Bedford is closed “until further notice” following a fire that broke out in the kitchen in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Fire services were called to Foxy Wings, which is between Zizzi and Wagamama on the Riverside leisure development, at 1.53am, with crews from Kempston, Bedford, Luton, Wellingborough and Leighton Buzzard in attendance.
In a statement, Bedfordsire Fire and Rescue said: “The fire involved the restaurant area, 20% fire damage, 100% smoke damage.
“Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reels, covering jets and positive pressure ventilation (a big fan), to put the fire out and remove the smoke.
“No one was in the property and a ‘stay put policy’ was put in place for the residents in the flats above.”

Tim Edwards, one of the owners of Foxy Wings, told the Bedford Independent: “Firstly, we’d like to thank the fire crews for their prompt response and for getting the fire under control so quickly.
“There is extensive smoke and fire damage throughout the restaurant. Once the investigators have finished, then we can start to assess what the damage is and put together a plan to reopen.
“We’re working with all the relevant agencies to help piece together what happened and we’re really sorry to our neighbouring businesses and residents for the inconvenience this has caused.”
He said they would do whatever it took to be back open and “better than ever” as soon as they can.
