Preparations for life in the Southern League Central Premier Division are continuing at pace at The Eyrie as the club have announced a quintet of signings for the new season.

Bedford Town were promoted to step three after a May bank holiday play-off final victory against Waltham Abbey at The Eyrie and the club have been immensely busy on and off the pitch in preparation for the new campaign.

After Lewis Green’s re-signing was announced, the club then unveiled Grenadan international, Dejon Noel-Williams.

Another one of Lee Bircham’s former players at Hemel Hempstead Town, Noel-Williams brings considerable experience at this level and adds to an already burgeoning line up in attack.

Also adding to the striking department is a name well-known in local circles, as former Kempston Rovers striker Ben Baker also joins the Eagles.

Baker scored 13 goals in 18 appearances for the Walnuts in the 2022/23 season before being snapped up by Waltham Abbey towards the top of Southern League Central Division One, playing a key part in their ultimately unsuccessful campaign last season in which they lost out to Bircham’s side.

He has obviously done enough to persuade Bircham that he’ll be an asset at The Eyrie however with competition aplenty for the attacking slots, with fan favourite, Connor Tomlinson also re-joining Bedford Town this summer.

In defence, left back Sam Brown joins the ranks and brings a winning step three background having won the league at Banbury and having played at Conference South side, St Albans City last season, the signing is considered a real coup for the Eagles.

Bedford Town have also beaten off interest from a number of clubs in securing the signature of Josh Flanagan; the former Northampton Town defender joining from Barwell, a side who finished in lower-mid table of the very division Bedford Town have been promoted to.

Flanagan brings considerable experience with him having also played at step two for Brackley Town in the National League North before joining Barwell.

Versatile midfielder, Gucci Soulya-Osekanongo is the latest signing to be announced from Enfield Town, although the youngster spent most of last year on dual registration at Welwyn Garden City in step four and will add reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Pre season just around the corner

Bedford Town have also provided an update on the re-laying of the pitch at The Eyrie, which now looks unrecognisable with the grass now completely gone and the foundations of the new 3G pitch currently being laid.

The Eyrie won’t be playing host to any pre-season fixtures however, the eight games played either away from home or at Hitchin Town with the new pitch and floodlights aiming to be completed in time for the league opener on 10th August.
