Nominations are now open for the Bedford Independent Everyday Heroes Awards, in partnership with The Harpur Trust, celebrating the unsung champions of Bedford Borough.
Among the categories is the Youth Voice Award, sponsored by Bedford Giving and dedicated to the memory of Laura Pottinger, the organisation’s inaugural director.

Laura tragically lost her life in 2023 alongside her close friend, Sarah Waller, following a canoeing accident on the River Great Ouse in Kempston.
She was a passionate advocate for young people and played a pivotal role in launching Bedford Giving, a movement that empowers local communities through philanthropy and social action.

Recognising young voices
The Youth Voice Award is open to individuals or teams aged 25 and under who have spoken up on behalf of young people, as well as organisations advocating for under-18s.
That could include a student who has campaigned for change at their school, a young activist lobbying local authorities or Parliament for policy reform, or a group providing help and guidance to improve the lives of children and young people.
Bedford Giving director Paul Kellett said: Bedford Giving is delighted to once again sponsor the Youth Voice Award, an award that shines a spotlight on incredible young people who have spoken up, stood out, and made a real difference in their communities.
“It also recognises the organisations and individuals who work tirelessly to amplify youth voices and support their journeys.
“This award is especially close to our hearts because it’s dedicated to the memory of Laura Pottinger — our brilliant first director.
“Laura was passionate about helping young people speak up, be heard, and thrive, and we’re proud to honour her legacy by continuing that work.
“We believe young people should not only have a seat at the table but a genuine say in shaping their future and the future of Bedford.
“So please nominate any individuals or organisations making a difference to young people’s lives. Together, let’s celebrate those who empower the next generation to lead, influence, and create positive change.”
