Local seafood lovers will have the opportunity to get behind the fish counter and practice their filleting skills with Bedford’s certified Master Fishmonger during this years’ Seafood Week (4 – 11 October).
The open day session, to be held on Wednesday 9 October at GCH Fishmongers in Bedford, forms part of a national Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) campaign, aimed at encouraging the public to increase their seafood consumption in line with the recommended two portions per week.
Master Fishmonger, and owner of GCH Fishmongers on Newnham Street, Gary Hooper will be leading the open day, encouraging the public to get hands on.
He said, “I have enjoyed every minute of my time in the seafood industry and the opportunities it has afforded me.
“I am really keen on giving something back to the industry I love, hence my passion for training others.
“As a Master Fishmonger I get a great buzz out of seeing others get on in this fantastic industry and if I can help them I will do!
“On Wednesday we’re staying open til 7pm and look forward to people booking a slot to get hands-on and learn more about preparing fish. We’ve got someone coming all the way from Manchester!”
