Your Bedford Weekend starts here: 20 – 22 September 2019

Mr B Gentleman Rhymer

Happy weekend everyone!

Enjoy the last of the September sunshine with a guided walk, become acquainted with the art of Chap-Hop or take a look around the Michalmas Fair at St Paul’s.

Mr B Gentleman Rhymer

We are pleased to announce that two very dapper chaps, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer and Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq will be teaming up for a night of ditties at Esquires this Friday.

From deepest darkest Surrey, and with a decade of gentlemanly catterwalling under his belt, Mr.B brings you Chap-Hop, re-acquainting Hip-Hop with the Queen’s English from whence it came. His legendary live recitals have earned him plaudits, largely from top shelf gentlemen’s quarterlies.

What can we say about local hero Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq? The man went stratospheric earlier this year, with his single ‘No More F’s To Give’ hitting several viral video channels, reacking up tens of millions of views and propelling his album into the charts! His own headline Esquires show was a packed out affair, so we suggest picking up tickets in advance for this one! Tickets are £10 adv – £12 on the door.

The Feelgood Band

Also at Esqiures tonight, from 8.45pm, The Feelgood Band – with a seal of approval from Wilko Johnson, Sparko and Figure.

High energy R&B played the Canvey Island way, recreating the unmistakable sounds of 1970’s Dr Feelgood.

Tickets £10 from Esquires bar or from the band

St Pauls ChurchFrom 10am – 4pm it’s the Michalmas Fair at St Paul’s Church. Refreshments are available.

The Velveteers

The Velveteers are an American Rock trio from Denver, Colorado featuring 21 year old guitarist and lead singer Demi Demitro and her two drummers.

Through fuzzed out guitar riffs and thunderous drums they lure their audience with vibes that come right out of a classic horror flick, the band is often compared to the likes of The Stooges, T.REX, andLed Zeppelin. From 8pm. Tickets £10

Follow in the footsteps of the ‘Immortal Tinker’ and author of the world-famous The Pilgrims Progress to various Bedford sites connected to the life and times of John Bunyan.

Walks leave the Old Town Hall in St. Paul’s Square, Bedford (close to the gold painted letter box) every Sunday at 11.00am. Walks last about 90 minutes, cover 1-2 miles and access is generally suitable for the less mobile. Please check when booking.

Children of all ages are most welcome on all of our Walks but those aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Each Walk costs £3.00 per person and must be pre-booked.

Esquires’ Sunday Afternoon Session this week features Dawson & the Dissenters. Averaging over 100 gigs a year Dawson & The Dissenters are a superb live band.

The shows are full of energy and passion and showcase their performance skills and great musicianship. The set is full of crowd-pleasing classic covers and class originals.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
