Young Bedford footballer heading to Denmark to compete in elite Nørhalne Cup

A young footballer from Bedford is looking forward to testing herself against the best, as she prepares to line up alongside her Lynx Elite teammates at a FIFA-approved elite football competition in Denmark.

Shay Taylor, who represents Bedfordshire County and Peterborough United Academy, whilst also playing for both Bedford Town and Phoenix Girls at weekends, is looking forward to the challenge of coming up against Europe’s top talent at the Nørhalne Cup in Denmark.

Shay has been invited to participate for Lynx Elite in the tournament, which is taking place in Nørhalne, a small town in North Jutland, Denmark across the Danish Ascension Day holiday from 14 to 16 May.

The Nørhalne Cup in Denmark is a top European tournament, hosting over 550 teams from over 12 countries across the world, including players from clubs such as Benfica, PSV Eindhoven, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Udinese and Braga.

Shay, who has never been away on tour before, said: “I am very excited to be going on a European tour for the first time.

“To play against different teams from different countries will challenge me and it’s a challenge I’m looking too. This opportunity will give me a great experience both on and off the pitch and enable me to test myself, whilst also enjoying the fun aspects of the tour too.

“I can’t wait!”

Shay will be involved in the Under-15 year group, and her group consists of teams from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany. 

Ryan’s Plumbing and Heating, from Bedford are playing their part in supporting the girls and have provided the squad, tour hoodies to travel in. 

Ryan Miles commented: “We are delighted to support a special group of talented girls for their tour to The Nørhalne Cup.

“It’s great that Shay is a local girl who will no doubt represent herself very well and also promote the county of Bedfordshire. It demonstrates the talent we have in the county!

“As a company are very proud and happy we can play our part in allowing the girls to travel and look the part on their travels.”
