From tomorrow (Thursday 29 December) until Tuesday 10 January, there will be eight Christmas tree recycling sites across Bedford Borough.
People can drop off real Christmas trees at any time and they will be collected by council staff and recycled at GBRS Ltd.
If the trunk of your tree is less than four inches in diameter – about the length of a credit card – it can be cut up and put into your green bin for collection.
If your tree has roots, you can plant it in the garden to reuse next Christmas.
Larger trees can be dropped off at any of these collection sites or taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre whose opening hours can be found at www.bedford.gov.uk/hwrc.

- Hillgrounds Road, Kempston – opposite the shops near Hartwell Drive
- Jubilee Park, Bedford – opposite North Lodge, Canvin Way
- Milton Ernest Garden Centre, Radwell Road off the A6
- Mowsbury Park Car Park, Wentworth Drive, Bedford
- Podington Garden Centre, High Street, Podington
- Roxton Garden Centre, A421 near the A1 Black Cat Roundabout
- Seasons Garden Centre, Bedford Road, Wixams / Wilstead
- Household Waste Recycling Centre, Barkers Lane, Bedford
Cllr Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said, “Dropping your real Christmas tree off at one of our sites is a great way to dispose of your tree easily, and sustainably.
“Just take off all the decorations, remove any containers and leave your tree in the designated area. Your tree will then be collected by council staff and recycled.”
