Welcome to Bedford via Zoom for virtual visitors from Palestine

On Thursday (23 July), Bedford will be one of six towns taking part of a virtual tour of the UK by a group of Palestinians, and the theme will be ‘twinning’.

Bedford is informally twinned with the Palestinian village of Al Walaja, and members of that community have also been invited to take part.

“This is part of a virtual tour of the UK,” said organiser, Rob Wall, of Bedford Friends of Al Walaja.

“The virtual visitors will be dropping in on six places over six days. Each visit features a Zoom meeting with a presentation about the town and then an opportunity for the Palestinians to ask questions about life here.

“It’s also an opportunity for them to tell us about life in Palestine.

“I have invited all the Palestinians who came to Bedford in February, including those from our twin village of Al Walaja, but there will also be other people from the West Bank.”

The event takes place on Thursday from 7.30-9pm and the Zoom code will be https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81883334955.

In February, two students from the West Bank’s Al Walaja visited Bedford with the aim of strengthening links and understanding between the towns’ communities.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
