Walk to Remember for Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice

The Sue Ryder St John’s hospice in Moggerhanger have urged Bedfordians to lace up their trainers for their ‘Walk to Remember’ this October.

The 5k charity walk takes place on Sunday 10 October and will be an opportunity to remember loved ones whilst raising vital funds for the hospice.

Sue Ryder Community Fundraiser, Ellie Burke, said it “promises to be an incredibly special event and we hope people will be able to join us.

“Not only will it allow supporters to raise vital funds, but it will be a chance to come together to celebrate, remember and talk about loved ones who are no longer with us.”

This echoes the charity’s latest research showing over half of Britain’s (54%) think remembrance events help them grieve.

Ellie said: “Our research finds more than two thirds of the British public (71%) have a special place they visit to remember a loved one who has died.

“This could be the countryside, a local park, or a favourite pub or restaurant. Make it your own Walk to Remember by deciding your start and finish line and a route that means something to you.

“The money raised through Walk to Remember – Bedford will enable our doctors, nurses and staff to continue to provide compassionate and expert care and help us fill someone’s last days with love.”

Walkers will meet at Everards Meadow and warm up with a fun Zumba session.

The route then goes along the Bedford Embankment and through Russell Park. Along the way, walkers can place a poignant dedication in honour of those special to them.

Richard Hames Managing Director of M&DH, who are sponsoring the event said: “We are proud to have supported Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice for many years.

“The hospice is really important to us, as so many of our staff and customers have experienced its compassionate care.

“We are continuing our support by sponsoring the Walk to Remember – Bedford, to help ensure the funds raised on the day can go directly to Sue Ryder so it can continue to provide its vital care and support.”

If you can’t make the 10 October, don’t worry. You can organise your own 5 or 10k Walk to Remember on any day during October.
