Unbeaten weekend for Bedford Hockey ladies on their travels

Bedford Hockey club were away on their travels last weekend after an abundance of home games the week before, with the ladies remaining unbeaten across the divisions.

The Ladies 1st XI are building a fearsome reputation and added to that with a comprehensive 7-1 victory against Canterbury; Kate Costin among the scorers with another hat-trick.

Steph Holyoak, Kelly Bingham, Rebecca Downing-Holmes and Robyn Gribble were the other goalscorers, leaving Bedford two points clear at the top of the table ahead of Barnes.

Two of Bedford’s other Ladies’ teams sit top of their respective divisions; the Ladies 3rd XI, who scored a 1-0 win against Hertford and the 5th XI who beat Letchworth’s 3rds by three goals to one.

The Ladies 2nds, 4th’s and 6ths were not to be outdone, all securing victories of their own.

The 2nd XI faced a long trip to Maidstone but came home with a 3-1 win with the 4th’s and the 6th’s winning 6-2 and 5-1 respectively.

The Men’s 1st XI faced Old Southendonian’s 1st team but came away with a 3-2 loss against their name, but the 2nd XI fared a bit better in a goalless draw in East London while the 3rd XI went top of the table with a 4-1 victory in West Herts.

The 4th XI travelled to Bishops Stortford, and while an uneventful first half finished scoreless; all the action came in the 2nd half as Bedford secured a 4-2 win.

The remaining games were both losses, for the 5th XI away at Cheshunt and for the Vets side who lost 2-1 in St Albans.
