A record number of visitors got into the festive spirit on Sunday 24 November at the Christmas lights switch-on and fireworks display on Bedford Embankment.
The annual fireworks display marks the start of the Christmas season and the lighting of the illuminations in Bedford town centre and attracted around 12,000 people.
For the first time, the fireworks took place on a Sunday and the move proved a success, with record numbers attending.
The event brought to and end a weekend of festive fun in the town centre including free fairground rides and face painting, a visit from the Transformers plus Anna and Elsa from Frozen 2 and a Christmas Fair in the Harpur Suite.
Mayor Dave Hodgson said, “This was a fantastic weekend in our town centre, and it’s wonderful that so many people came out to enjoy the fair and the brilliant fireworks display. Our thanks go to the Bedford Pantomime Company and Bedford BID for their support.
“It was a wonderful afternoon of free fun for the kids and the biggest and best fireworks display ever,” said resident Kristina Castle.
“Christmas has now officially started!”
