Take part in a paddle boarding river clean up this Saturday

Plastic Patrol paddle boarding

Want to try paddle boarding and do your bit to help flight plastic pollution?

Volunteers from Plastic Patrol have teamed up with SUP Bedford – Stand Up Paddle Board with Canoe Trail in Bedford for day of free paddle boarding and litter picking on the River Great Ouse this Saturday.

No experience is required and the instructors will provide basic paddling skills and a safety briefing before you get on the water.

All equipment and kit – from paddle board, buoyancy aid, litter pick and bucket – is supplied, so all you need to do is turn up at the Butterfly Bridge (check their event page for the meet up time), ready and willing to get stuck in.

If you want to help but would rather keep your feet on dry land, you can join in by foot from the riverbank. Everyone is welcome but the paddle boarding sessions are restricted to over 16s.

The event is ‘single-use-plastic’ free so participants are asked to bring water in a reusable bottle.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
