Sue Ryder’s annual Starlight Hike Bedford will return this October, inviting the community to walk under the stars in memory of loved ones while supporting the charity’s end-of-life and bereavement care.

The event, sponsored by concept event solutions, takes place on Saturday 11 October 2025 at Everard Meadow, on the banks of the River Ouse.

Participants can choose a 5k or 10k route, with the evening beginning at 5:30pm with live entertainment and a glow stick warm-up before the walk officially sets off at 7pm.

Open to families, friends, and individuals, the hike offers space to reflect and celebrate the lives of those lost.

Many walkers dress in lights and glitter, and a remembrance tent will be set up in the event village for participants to make dedications. Food and drink vendors will also be on site.

As part of Sue Ryder’s commitment to sustainability, this year’s event will include a donation station where attendees can bring pre-loved clothing to be sold in local Sue Ryder charity shops.

Steve Albon, community fundraising manager at Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger, said: “Every year, the atmosphere at Sue Ryder starlight hike Bedford is truly special.

“It’s a chance for people to celebrate and remember those they love while raising funds so that Sue Ryder can be there when it matters most. Whether you come along with family, friends, colleagues, or walk in quiet reflection, you’ll be making a real difference.”

It costs £16,000 a day to run Sue Ryder’s end-of-life services, including at St John’s Hospice.

While entry fees help cover event costs, the charity is encouraging participants to raise a suggested £100 or more in sponsorship to help fund vital care.

Early bird registration is open until 31 July, with 20% off entry fees. Teams of five or more can also receive a group discount using code TEAM20.

Tickets start at £20 per adult, which includes a Starlight Hike t-shirt and medal. Volunteers are also being sought to help with the event.
