The bells of St Paul’s Church in Bedford will toll 100 times on Saturday in honour of Captain Sir Tom Moore and to mark the day of his funeral.
The Bedfordshire centenarian, who raised almost £33million for NHS Charities Together in the run-up to his 100th birthday last year, died earlier this month at Bedford Hospital.
St Paul’s Church is joining churches throughout the county and the UK in tolling their bells in Captain Sir Tom Moore’s honour.
Acknowledging that the funeral will be a private family service, Bishop of Bedford, Rt Reverend Richard Atkinson, has asked for churches across the county to mark the occasion by the ringing of bells on Saturday, 27 February at 12 noon.
James Saunders will be tolling one bell at St Paul’ Church on Saturday.
This is permissible under Covid restrictions.
