A nine-year-old from Brickhill has raised over a thousand pounds on her own for a Bedfordshire cancer charity.

Lola Murphy, supported by her dad George, decided to do a sponsored scoot after her grandmother Bridget was diagnosed with cancer.

Lola wanted to raise money for the cancer charity that is supporting Bridget who was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in 2021 having originally been treated for it in 2014.

Lola wanted to raise money for the charity “Above and Beyond Foundation” which is based in Biggleswade.

For her challenge, Lola planned to scoot around Grafham Water, with a fundraising target of £100.

Bridget said: “Lola created a go-fund-me page and she was sponsored online by family and friends.

“She went once around Grafham Water which is nine miles. Her dad went round with her and Lola didn’t have a break in all that time.”

In the end, Lola raised more than £1,000 – smashing her original target.

“When she finished she said her legs ached, but she was very proud of herself,” said Bridget

“She only stopped for her dad to put plasters on the blisters on her feet.”
