SMART Castle Comedy
Paul Revill, Castle Comedy, and Anita McCallum, CEO of SMART CJS, looking delighted about receiving the generous donation.

Castle Comedy, in conjunction with Bedford Park Rotary held a fundraising night for the SMART Prebend Centre for the homeless last month.

The Homeless Day Centre in Bedford has received a total of £1,546 from the event, including a cheque for £1,000 from Bedford Park Rotary and £546 from the Castle Comedy reverse auction.

Castle Comedy has been running for eight years in Bedford and has a reputation as one of the best comedy clubs in the UK.

In March it is moving to Central Square Bedford, an exciting new venue in the heart of the town.

Paul Revill, the man behind Castle Comedy said, “We’re delighted to be able to support the SMART Prebend Centre. What could be better than having a laugh and raising money for a brilliant Bedford initiative.”

Anita McCallum, CEO of SMART, said, “Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of this event and especially to Bedford Park Rotary and Castle Comedy working together for the benefit of our homeless and rough sleeper community in Bedford – you are a truly wonderful partnership!”

SMART Prebend Centre encountered unplanned building repairs towards the end of 2019, totalling more than £90,000, and they urgently need your help to fund the renovations. PLEASE DONATE to the Cold Relief In Bedford (CRIB) Appeal, so they can continue to provide shelter, safety and support to Bedford’s homeless and socially excluded.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
