Rotary Club members support Bedford Foodbank

218

Over the last three months, members of the Rotary Club of Bedford Castle have been helping Bedford Foodbank by collecting and sorting donations.

They have also made a donation towards the cost of warehouse equipment and pledged to continue working with Bedford Foodbank throughout 2022.

More than 20 Rotary Club members volunteered to support the Foodbank, from sorting donations to collecting much-needed items including cutlery, saucepans and kitchen equipment.

These were handed over this week along with cash donations towards the cost of warehouse equipment.

In total, 280 kilos of food and kitchen items were donated.

Rotary Club President Michael Liddle praised the work of the volunteers in helping the community.

Last year, the Trussel Trust (the charity that runs foodbanks) revealed that they distributed 30% more food parcels in 2020-21 than in the previous year.

If you would like to make a donation to the Bedford Foodbank, their most-needed items are as follows:

  • Milk (Longlife)
  • Fruit juice (Longlife)
  • Cup-a-Soup
  • Tinned potatoes (large)
  • Coffee (100g)
  • Teabags (40/80)
  • Hotdogs (Jumbo)
  • Tinned meat in sauce (e.g. curry, chilli)
  • Jars of curry sauce
  • Sponge puddings
  • Shampoo
  • Washing-up liquid
  • Antibacterial spray

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
