Bedford’s own Sunsinger is back with a new song – Sweet Smell of Roses – the first in seven years.
The song has a melancholic yet warm sound with Simon’s rich voice building nicely with the piano for a country vibe, reminiscent of Neil Young or John Denver.
Simon says: “Most of my songs seem to have a happy ending – this one doesn’t for whatever reason. I suppose this is a reminder that not everything goes to plan, and it’s a song to dust yourself off to.
“This track was one that seemed to turn out particularly well from a clutch of lockdown home recordings, with the final touches being added at a friend’s studio”.
Sunsinger’s lineup on the single is Simon Gutteridge (vocals, acoustic guitars, piano, synths, drum programming), Mark Calder (bass guitar) and Dave Banks (electric guitar, drum programming).
The full band includes Adkam Knowles (guitar) and Nigel Ali (drums).
The new single was recorded by Simon Gutteridge & Dave Banks, produced by Dave Banks with mixing and mastering by Dave Banks at The Little Red Recording studio.
Sweet Smell of Roses is released on all major digital platforms and for sale on Bandcamp tomorrow (Friday 4 November). Support your local artists and give it a download.
