Bedfordians are invited to take part in discussions about racism and help them reflect on their experiences in response to the deaths of Black people in the US and UK.
A Zoom meeting tonight at 7:30pm, giving people a chance to share and listen to experiences of racism in our local community, has been organised by Bedford based Power in Discussion.
People taking part can also reflect on the recent events worldwide in response to the killing of George Floyd.
“The meeting will focus on how the community of Bedfordshire may respond to the Black Lives Matter movement and the structural and systematic racism experienced by Black people in the UK,” said organiser Simon Beeiiee.
“We recognise and respect that resistance to white supremacy comes in many different forms and the conversation will be shaped by those who attend.
“We are also considering how local and global communities have been affected. There’ll be opportunity to responsibly share personal anecdotes for self care and coping strategies.
“It is a call for action.”
If you would like to join the meeting, you can sign up at their Eventbrite page.
Power In Discussion is a platform which creates space for meaningful discussion on a number of topics people feel passionately about or are affected by.
They discuss a number of subjects including: LGBTQ+ matters, community, diversity and inclusion, mental and physical health, wellbeing, identity and experiences of Black people.
Their primary focus is to create safe spaces online and offline for meaningful conversations for people who are often silenced or erased from wider discussions.
They aim to provide opportunities for people to see the similarities in their experiences, connect with others, be heard and entertained.
