Bedfordshire Police has confirmed it is increasing patrols in Clapham after numerous reports of screws being scattered across several roads in the area, causing damage to vehicles.
According to one Clapham resident, hundreds of screws have been “repeatedly and deliberately scattered across roads including Milton Road, Twinwoods Road and Bedford Road” since 28 June, causing “dozens of tyre punctures.”
They said that the situation is escalating and that “incidents are now happening almost daily.”
In response, Bedford Borough Council has sent street sweepers out multiple times, but locals are concerned that it’s only a matter of time before a pedestrian, cyclist or pet is seriously injured.
A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police told the Bedford Independent, “We have been made aware of several reports relating to numerous screws being found on the roads in and around Clapham, which has caused damage to several vehicles.
“As part of our enquiries into this, we have increased patrols in the area and have liaised with the Highways Agency to arrange for the roads to be cleaned up.
