Bedfordshire Police has confirmed that at least one person has died following today’s explosion at Redwood Grove.
In a statement, they also said that some people remain unaccounted for and they are working with partner agencies to establish their safety.
One of the three people taken to hospital was a firefighter who was treated for smoke inhalation.
“We have launched an investigation to identify the cause of the explosion,” said the statement.
“Given the complexity of the scene, it is expected that this could take some time. At all times we will ensure that the dignity of those who have died is preserved and respected.
“We are working to get people back into their homes as quickly as we can, but would encourage people to head to The John Bunyan Centre if they need help and support.”
An information centre has been set up here for people to get in touch, report any concerns or find out about family members.
Concerned family and friends can also call 0800 051 6085.
“We understand that this is a very distressing and upsetting incident and we would like to thank everyone for their patience and support whilst work at the scene continue,” said the Police spokesperson.
