Pedestrian bridge over River Great Ouse reopens to the public

The newly refurbished Kings Bridge over the River Great Ouse between Oasis Beach Pool and Aspects Leisure Park will reopen to the public next week.

The bridge was closed to the public in October 2020 to undergo a £600,000 maintenance programme.

Bedford Borough Council has refurbished some of the steelwork, overseen the replacement of the worn timber deck panels with new steel decking with high grip surfacing and repainted the bridge.

A Bedford Borough Council spokesperson said: “Kings Bridge was in desperate need of refurbishment and we are pleased to announce these works are now complete.

“Our walking and cycling infrastructure in Bedford Borough are important and we want to continue to improve our networks and keep them in good condition for residents”.

Kings Bridge will re-open by Tuesday 13 April.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
