Paddlers from the Facebook social group ‘East Of England Paddlesports’ will be paddling through Bedford on Saturday (26 October) for a fun fancy dress social.
The group run various trips and events throughout the year but the Halloween paddle is said to always be a highlight.
Last year they took to the River Cam, Cambridge, and attracted around thirty paddlers, heloign to clear litter from the river too.
Organiser Oliver Jordan, said they’d do the same in Bedford: “Not only are we having a fun paddle we are doing our bit for the environment too.
“We will take a casual paddle upstream from opposite Shaftesbury Avenue/Russell Park/The Embankment into the town centre towards Queens Bridge.
“We’ll then turn around to the portage point next to Viking Rowing Club and stop for food before we head back. In total it’s about 2.5 miles.”
The group recommend people taking part bring head torches plus non-paddlers are welcome to follow the group along the riverside path.
“I started the social group as a hobby and a way to meet new local paddlers,” said Oliver. “The group has now grown to almost two thousand members.
“These guys all share pictures, arrange meet ups and look for advice daily now. We welcome new members and are a friendly bunch.”
It all starts at 4pm and is expected to finish at 8pm. Full details at the group’s Facebook event page.
