TV's Charles Hanson will be the auctioneer

A Bedford Rotary Club is hosting an online auction – featuring a celebrity auctioneer – this month, raising funds for two local charities.

Hosted by Charles Hanson, known for his appearances on TV’s Flog It, Antiques Road Trip and Bargain Hunt, the Rotary Club of Bedford Castle’s auction will take place online on 26 November.

The Schoolreaders charity will be the main beneficiary of the event, with Bedford Daycare Hospice also receiving money.

Around a quarter of all children left primary school last year unable to read well. These children are at a disadvantage because they are unable to access their secondary education properly, and this has lifelong consequences.

Schoolreaders provides a vital service giving free one-to-one reading sessions with primary school children in order to give them brighter opportunities for the future.

“Guest auctioneer, Charles Hanson has recently acquired the auction rooms in Woburn so we might all be seeing more of him in the future,” said the Rotary Club’s Charles Codrington.

“He is sure to make it an evening to remember and we encourage you to join us at www.hansonslive.co.uk and get bidding on the night.

“Anyone wishing to make a donation to the event can visit the Rotary Club’s fundraising page that has been set up solely for this event.”

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
