Bedford Sports Awards 2020 may have had to be postponed until next year, but there’s still the chance to recognise local lockdown sporting heroes.
The ‘Bedford Borough’s 2020 Sport and Physical Activity Heroes’ aims to recognise those people who have gone above and beyond to help people keep active, achieve their goals, and continue to inspire throughout the pandemic.
Anyone can nominate their lockdown sporting superstar and the final list of heroes will be online from 7 December.
Would you like to thank someone or a sports club/organisation/school for their support or recognise and celebrate their hard work during the pandemic?
Has your gym instructor gone online and delivered a Zumba, Pilates or karate class via Zoom?
Has someone you know helped an older person keep active by regularly joining them on a socially distanced walk?
Perhaps you know someone who has helped get their sports club started again once restrictions were lifted?
Does your school have its very own ‘Joe Wicks’ inspirational PE teacher or have you as an individual taken up a new sport and got the family to join in?
To nominate someone, visit www.bedford.gov.uk/Bedford2020SportHeroes and complete the simple online recognition form.
Councillor Doug McMurdo, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said: “We have had to postpone this year’s Sports Awards – these will happen next year – but we did not want to ignore the amazing contribution that so many people in 2020 have made and I am very pleased that we have launched ‘Bedford Borough’s 2020 Sport and Physical Activity Heroes’.
“Through this, we can recognise the good work that continues to be done in the community, and acknowledge and thank all those who have continued to help others stay active and healthy, in creative ways.
“Please get in touch and tell us about your local sporting heroes in this difficult year.”
