Steve and Wendy Ivins, owners of PDM Car Parts & Accessories in Kempston and Clapham, are about to take a bite of the big apple after winning Love Bedford‘s New York trip competition, run in conjunction with Global Travel Experts.

The couple from Putnoe said: “We are absolutely thrilled, we love Bedford and as local business owners try to support the shops in town. We’re an independent family business who can beat Halfords on price and service – so we’re very glad to meet up and make friends with Global Travel Experts who are independents too,”

What makes the win even more special is that the couple have recently faced stress with a rogue builder and can now use the trip to relax and also celebrate their 50th birthdays and their 25th wedding anniversary.

Meherwan Bozorgi, Managing Director, at Global Travel Experts based in Ram Yard, was delighted to be part of the competiton and help create the fabulous prize: “Having moved to Bedford some years back, we want to be part of a community that helps each other and supports town centre businesses.

“Despite misconceptions, booking online is not always cheaper than going through a specialist agent like ourselves. The Love Bedford activity is backing independents like ourselves so we work with others to keep customers coming back not only for ourselves but also for the whole town. We are looking forward to helping Steve and Wendy have a wonderful and memorable trip.”

Nearly 5,000 entries were made to the free prize draw.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
