Aspiring musicians and performers are being given an opportunity to hone their stage skills at a newly launched dedicated Open Mic Night for under 18s.
The Cellar Bar on Bedford High Street will host the first such event on Sunday, 15 October from 5pm – 7pm, ahead of their main open mic night. Hosted by Bedford music royalty, Mat Roberts, it will be a great opportunity for emerging artists to receive expert feedback and perform on a stage.
Cellar Bar owner, Cathy Wright, said: “We’ve only been open for nine months but already have built up a great reputation in the local music scene.
“Our open mic nights on a Sunday have proved very popular with both established and budding new musicians from Bedford and the wider community. The fact that we have a stage, full PA and drum kit means musicians can literally turn up and start performing and the warm welcoming atmosphere allows more nervous performers to thrive.”
The venue has already nurtured several new artists including Joe Cullen and a young band called The Stalkers.
“This made us think that there should be a regular event where young performers can come and develop their talents,” said Cathy.
The Junior Open Mic night will be a regular monthly event and talented acts will be given the opportunity to do paid gigs at The Cellar Bar during 2024.
