The Marks & Spencer Foodhall in Kempston has reassured customers that they are open to everyone today, despite misleading posts on social media.
Like many other shops, the store has introduced specific trading hours for older and vulnerable customers as well as NHS and emergency service workers.
However, a post on some of Bedford’s Facebook groups has suggested that the whole store is only open for OAPs today.
From today, M&S will be reserving the first hour every Monday and Thursday for elderly and vulnerable customers.
A spokesperson told the Bedford Indepdendent, “We are also introducing a special shopping hour to support our dedicated NHS and emergency service workers – and this will take place for the first hour each Tuesday and Friday morning from next week. The store in Bedford will be part of this activity.”
The store is extending temporary purchasing restrictions to two items per customer in some categories, specifically frozen foods, homecare, groceries and eggs. “This isn’t a decision M&S has taken lightly, but there is unprecedented demand on some lines,” said the spokesperson.
