Mowsbury Golf Club were back on the fundraising trail at the weekend, raising money for Parkinson’s UK in aid of former Club President and captain, Paul Halliday.
Paul was a much loved and well-respected long-standing member of Mowsbury Golf Club as captain in 1987 and as Club President from 2010 to 2013, and as many as 80 players from across the Club turned out to remember him at the weekend.

Paul could often be seen up and down the fairways on the course in his converted mobility scooter with his clubs strapped to the back.
Despite having Parkinson’s, it didn’t stop him from having a great swing and finding the middle of the fairway on many occasions, and it was these memories and more that were shared on a superb occasion on Sunday (21st July).
Hosted by former Captain, John Broughton, there was a BBQ, raffle and various fundraising activities all resulting in a grand total of £2,360 raised for Parkinson’s UK and the Halliday family, who were also present on the day.

The Halliday family also sent their regards and appreciation to Mowsbury Golf Club and thanked everyone for their hospitality and efforts in raising the money, most of which will go to Parkinson’s UK.
There are also plans to install a commemorative bench at the club, as well as planting a tree in Paul’s memory.
According to statistics from the charity, 153,000 people in the UK live with the condition and it is the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world. There’s currently no known cure.
