Mercury-nominated, alt-pop four-piece The Big Moon have sold out their headline slot in Bedford in September as part of The National Lottery’s United By Music Tour with Music Venue Trust.

The show on 17 September is one of ten special performances in intimate venues across the country to support grassroots music venues amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

With one grassroots music venue closing each week, the tour has already seen Blossoms, Cat Burns, Metronomy and Bloc Party return to their roots to highlight the importance of venues like Esquires as part of the music industry’s wider ecosystem.

The United By Music Tour, organised by the charity Music Venue Trust and funded by The National Lottery started in June and is running until late September.

The tour features Rhoda Dakar, alongside other established acts including Sleeper and Newton Faulkner and a host of new acts playing 150 gigs at 130 grassroots music venues across the UK.

The Big Moon vocalist, Juliette Jackson, said: “We are so excited to go out on this tour.

“These smaller venues are so crucial to the UK’s musical landscape – they give new artists a vital space to learn and hone their craft and enter the world of live music at an accessible level. We need to protect these places to keep new music coming.”

Gareth Barber, owner of Esquires told the Bedford Independent: “We are very excited to be hosting four artists on the United By Music tours over the next couple of months and grateful that Esquires has been given so much support in the lean summer months by both Music Venue Trust and The National Lottery.

“Summer is particularly hard for grassroots music venues, with so much competition from festivals with a lack of tours. These events have filled gaps in the diary that we would have struggled to without them.”

Gareth said Esquires had been trying to book The Big Moon for many years now.

“We can’t wait to finally have them grace our main stage and they come highly recommended by us, so pick up a ticket.

“Alongside The Big Moon, we also have performances from Newton Faulkner (not many tickets left..), Hamish Hawk and Rhoda Dakar, all courtesy of the United By Music tours.”
