Man in his 20s arrested following report of rape near Castle Mound

A police cordon was in place for several days after the incident

The area around the grounds of the Higgins Bedford and Castle Mound remains cordoned off while Bedfordshire Police investigate a reported rape.

At approximately 12.40am on Monday (12 July) police received a report of a rape in Newnham Road, Bedford.

The area is still closed to the public whilst police enquiries take place.

A man in his 20s from Bedford has been arrested in relation to the incident and remains in police custody.

Anyone with information about this incident, or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time, is asked to contact the police online, or by calling 101 quoting reference number 40/36143/21.
