St Peter’s Street car park will be closed for the next six weeks while major improvement works are carried out.

The entire car park is being resurfaced with some parts being rebuilt entirely. In addition, the drainage system is being replaced and changes are being made to the surface levels to help stop standing water.

The kerbs are also being relayed and some improvements made to the surrounding pavement.

Lurke Street car park to reopen for essential use

For the six weeks that St Peter’s Street car park is closed, Lurke Street multi-storey car park will be reopened to provide parking for those undertaking essential travel.

Cllr Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Highways said: “Following exploratory works earlier this year, we are now ready to carry out these improvement works in this town centre car park.

“This car park has been in need of improvements for some time now, and I am delighted that we are able to deliver these works and bring this car park back to a high quality.

“We are opening Lurke Street multi-storey car park to provide necessary parking for essential journeys. Thank you for your patience as we carry out these works.”
