A consultation on a range of traffic-calming measures in Queen’s Park has been launched by Bedford Borough Council’s highways department.
The plans concentrate on Ford End Road, and local councillors are encouraging local residents to have their say.
Cllr Akhtar (Labour, Queen’s Park) said: “This issue has been raised countless times with us by residents, and we’ve worked hard to reinforce the urgency of improving safety on this stretch of road with the Council.
“Officers recently met with us and saw the issues for themselves.
“They’ve suggested a range of measures, and we want as many residents as possible to let us know what you think of them.”
The suggested measures will be introduced along the entire length of the road, and proposals include flat-top road humps 6m in length across the full width of the road, 3m-long by 1.6m-wide speed cushions, and raised junction tables.

Cllr Masud (Labour, Queen’s Park) added: “I’ve already reported that I am concerned the width of the speed cushions may be too narrow to slow some larger vehicles, so it is important people look at these plans.
“We hope these measures will also be rolled out to other Queen’s Park Roads where residents have raised similar problems, such as Chester Road, Chestnut Avenue, Ford End Road, and Hurst Grove.”
