It’s the day many students across Bedford Borough have been waiting for as they collect their A level, T Level and other vocational and technical qualifications today this morning.
Nationally, grades are expected to be “broadly similar to last year”, according to Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, who has been congratulating pupils and teachers for their hard work and dedication.
According to The Guardian, over 320,000 UK 18-year-olds applied to university this year, the second highest on record.
The majority of those will receive a place at their first-choice university today, while Ucas will also support thousands of students to access places using Clearing.

We’ll bring you the updated national picture as it comes in and the Bedford Borough results live as schools and colleges announce how their students have done. All will be in alphabetical order.

Bedford Borough exam results
Bedford School
Bedford School’s Sixth Form leavers are today celebrating “a superb set of results” with just under half (48%) of all examinations awarded the top A/A grade. Their results will see the boys go on to study a spectacular range of courses at league-topping universities.
Students there have studied n fields such as Architecture, Business Management, Computer Science, International Relations, Biochemistry, Product Design, Russian, Sport Management, Sustainability and Environment Management, Urban Studies, and Zoology.
As well as the more traditional subjects of Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Modern Languages, all types of Engineering, Law, Economics, Finance and Politics.
The most popular university destinations include Durham, Imperial College London, King’s College London, Lancaster, Leeds, Loughborough, Newcastle, Queen Mary University of London, Edinburgh, Bath, Birmingham, Cardiff and Exeter.
Sam Baldock, Acting Head Master (during James Hodgson’s sabbatical), stated, “I sincerely congratulate the boys for their outstanding achievements, which are testament to their hard work, and all the guidance and support from their teachers and families.
“As a group of boys, they have also given tremendous support to each other – championing and encouraging each other’s successes across all manner of academic and co-curricular areas.
“We are delighted that most woke up this morning to the happy news that they would be taking their first steps as Old Bedfordians at their chosen universities.”
- Will Reddy achieved four A* in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science, and will go on to read Computer Science at Trinity Hall College, Cambridge. Will explained, “My subject teachers really helped to push me by going through extension questions, which allowed me to get to the level needed. They have always been there to offer support when needed.”
- Max Leung achieved a superb set of results in what was an extremely challenging time after his mother passed away just before he sat his exams. Max, who was a boarder at the school, was thrilled to be awarded four A* in Chemistry, Maths, Music and Biology, which will see him go on to Imperial College London to read Biochemistry.
Max explained, “My biggest challenge was to focus on my revision because my mum passed away during the Easter break and it was very difficult to get myself out of the hard times. However, school teachers and staff members were very encouraging and gave me a lot of love during this difficult time and provided me with a lot of strength to get through this period. I feel very grateful for everyone who gave me the love.” - Sam Maling will begin the next chapter of his life in Canada at the University of Toronto after achieving A* in English Literature, A* in Religious Studies, and an A in History.
Talking of his results, Sam said, “I’m really buzzing, and it sounds like everyone has done really well which I’m really pleased to hear.
Learning a strong exam technique was so important and all credit goes to my teachers for helping me do this over the last few years. Running the societies meant I got to pursue my personal interests alongside my studies.” - Ivan Iankov has secured a prestigious Tsotsorkov scholarship to Imperial College London to study Physics with Theoretical Physics after achieving four A* in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science.
Ivan is extremely pleased with his results explained, “I am very grateful for my teachers who have provided incredible support throughout my school career, and a big part of my success is down to the passion, motivation and advice they shared with me.”
Bedford Girls School
Bedford Girls’ School is celebrating the success of its Upper Sixth examination results with half of the grades being an A* – A and three quarters being A*-B (A Level and International Baccalaureate Diploma combined).
Additionally, over 96% of the cohort have already been accepted onto their preferred choice course.
The school says students are now set to pursue a wide array of disciplines at leading universities, including Civil Engineering, Chinese with Social Anthropology, Architecture, Actuarial Science, Law, Medicine, Criminology, Linguistics, Banking and International Finance, Philosophy, Computer Science, Politics and International Relations, Biochemistry, Vet Medicine, Theatre Production, and Fine Art, to name a few.
Mrs Gemma Gibson, Headmistress of Bedford Girls’ School, commented: “I am extremely proud of these students, they have shown remarkable resilience and enthusiasm throughout their Sixth Form journey.

Bedford Greenacre Independent School
Bedford Greenacre Independent School have said their sixth-form pastoral staff and “fantastic team” of tutors would like to pay tribute to the enthusiasm and commitment of the class of 2024.
Head of Sixth, Richard Woodward, said: “This cohort of young people should be immensely proud of their results. They have achieved some impressive grades which reflect their hard work.
“We wish them every success as they embark on their future journeys. We will miss them, but we know that as they set out on their post-18 pathways, they are equipped with the necessary skills and confidence to thrive in an increasingly challenging world”.
The school has confirmed that 100% passes were achieved from Grade A-C in Biology, Politics, Criminology, Design Technology, English Literature, Theatre Studies, Photography and Art.
Results in Cambridge Technical subjects, business studies and physical education, were also said to be “excellent” with many being awarded distinction.
A spokesperson added, “We are proud of the achievements of all our sixth formers, but there are a couple who deserve particular praise.
“Sam Whitney and Amelia Creasey should be congratulated on their impressive sets of results including A* and As. It’s also very pleasing to see that all of our university applicants have been offered a place at their chosen universities.
“We are especially proud of those students who have achieved good value-added progress results (the progress from the point of joining Bedford Greenacre for sixth form, to going on to be awarded comparatively excellent results in their final examinations).
“For example, one student who scored an average of 3.44 at GCSE, went on to attain 144 UCAS points. As a non-selective school, we could see the potential of this student and were able to support them to achieve their best.
“This was just one of several young people who went on to surpass expectations based on prior performance.”
Principal, Mr Daniel, added, “Sixth form is a critical phase in a young person’s development and here at Bedford Greenacre, we pride ourselves on being able to support our students to reach their potential, both academically and socially.
“We wish this year’s cohort the very best for the future”.
Bedford Modern School
Students and staff at BMS celebrated a set of A Level results showing an uplift in the top grades achieved pre-pandemic. Half of all grades achieved this year at the school were A*-A with 21% marked at A* and 43% of students receiving three A grades or better.
11 students secured places at universities across the country to study medicine with an additional two taking veterinary medicine and science.
Three have secured places in universities overseas while a number have accepted degree or other apprenticeship opportunities with such companies as Dyson, DHL and Barclays.
Four students, Prarthana, Ellie, Adam and Finn each achieved a clean sweep of four A*s and they will all be taking up places at either Oxford or Cambridge Universities in September.
Having studied Economics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A Level, Prarthana spoke of her success and said: “I was relieved and delighted with my results.
“I have enjoyed the wide range of opportunities available here at BMS and I would like to thank my teachers for all they have done for me. I’m looking forward to studying Economics at Cambridge.”
Adam was equally delighted with his suite of top grades for Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and History A Levels and added: “I’m incredibly pleased with my results. BMS is a great environment in which to study and achieve. I am now particularly excited to begin my degree in PPE at Oxford.”
Headmaster, David Payne, said: “Those receiving their A Level results today were the first cohort of students to sit their GCSE examinations post-pandemic and they should be extremely pleased with their achievements.
“I would like to praise their resilience and offer them my personal congratulations as they begin the next chapter of their lives. Their rounded education at Bedford Modern School leaves them well-placed to continue their success in the future.
“I would also like to commend the staff who consistently go the extra mile for their students and who ensured that a BMS education continued uninterrupted even during turbulent times.
“The support, encouragement and care they show for their students is unparalleled. My sincere thanks to them all.”
Bedford Sixth Form
Early reports from Bedford Sixth Form reveal that more students have achieved A*-C grades than in the previous years helping to secure places at top universities across the country.
In addition, the number of students achieving high grades A*-B has also improved on last year’s results.
A spokesperson says there have been some “exceptional performances” in many subjects such as Further Maths, Statistics, Ancient History, Italian, Photograph, Drama & Theatre and Film Studies, which all achieved 100% pass rates.
This year, students were able to secure places at some of the top universities in the country including Oxford, Leeds, Bath, Bristol, Durham, Queen Mary in London, Exeter, Nottingham and University College London to name a few.
After collecting their results today, twins Raeesah and Zafreen Akhtar have both decided to take higher-level apprenticeships at top law firms Fox Williams and Freeths where they will spend the next 6-years training to be Solicitors.
Emily Sweet was excited that she got the results she needed to secure her place at University College London where she is going to study Education.
Friends Josh Rennell and Elizabeth Taylor collected their results at the same time. Josh secured his place at Brighton University to study film and the aptly named Elizabeth Taylor is hoping to secure a place studying film and drama.
Beth Killen has secured her place at Warwick University to study English literature and Errycia Gayle is off to Nottingham University to study maths and economics.
Rachel Carter came along with her family to open her results in the Grand Hall and there were smiles all round as she secured her place at the University of Hull to study history.
Raif Myers was happy with his results and is planning to take a gap year before deciding whether to go to university or do an apprenticeship.

“It is always a nerve-wracking day for us and the students but so rewarding to see students secure their chosen university places or take the next steps in their education and careers.
Robin Webber-Jones, Principal of Sixth Forms also added his congratulations, “Our team have been on site from early this morning to celebrate with students but also to offer support to any who may not have done as well as they had hoped.
“There are many options available to students receiving their results across the country today. No matter what their results are, today is just the beginning and we will work with each student to help them with their next steps.”
Biddenham International School
“Once again Biddenham kids have surpassed themselves and made their parents proud”. That’s from a spokesperson of the school who tells us that five of the parents watching their children receive results today are teachers at the school themselves.
The top performer was Justin Grosu who posted four As in Maths. Further Maths, Physics and Computer Studies and is taking up a degree apprenticeship with JP Morgan.
His dad is a longstanding “maths-teaching legend” at Biddenham and is said to be incredibly proud of his son’s achievement.
Head of school, Eleanor Grylls’ daughter, Beth Davison, attained two A’s in Drama and EPQ and two B’s in Chemistry and Biology.
Eve Piotrowski achieved two As and two Bs making Assistant Head Caroline Finney very proud as she takes up a place in mum’s homeland of Scotland at Edinburgh University to study Social Anthropology.
Rayhan Miah got two As and two As in Computing. in Maths, Physics, Computing and Further Maths and is off to Imperial College London to study.
Amour Amour attained one A, three As and a B in five difficult A levels.
Meanwhile, Sahir Mahmood got an A* in Maths, As in Physics and Chemistry and a B in Biology. Nahla Jahan also got an A* in Law, an A in Psychology and a Distinction in Sport.
Grace Dilley Got an A, A and B in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and last but not least Rabia Zeb got two As and two Bs.
“Great students, great teachers and we are proud of them all,” said the spokesperson.
Sharnbrook Academy
Sharnbrook Academy says they are celebrating “superb results once again achieved by Sixth Form students in their A-level examinations”.
Despite A-level grades returning nationally to pre-pandemic levels and the lasting effects of Covid disruption to their education, students at Sharnbrook Academy are said to have performed extremely well.
“The effort and ambition shown by students at Sharnbrook Academy, part of Meridian Trust, was reflected in the results that they achieved, and the opportunities they are now able to pursue via university, apprenticeships and employment,” said a spokesperson for the school.
Amongst the outstanding results across the year group, there were many exceptional individual performances:
• Ali Zghaibe achieved four A* grades and is now going to study medicine at the University of Cambridge.
• Archie Connolly achieved four A* grades and is going to study medicine at the University of Birmingham.
• Abigail Kasina achieved three A* grades and is going to study chemistry at the University of Oxford.
• Sam Mathuram achieved three A* grades and is heading to the University of Oxford to study medicine.
• Nicola Bredell achieved three A* grades and is going to the University of Bath to study biomedical science.
• Michaela Camara achieved three A* grades and is going to King’s College London to study artificial intelligence.
• Sophie Simpson achieved one A* grade and two A grades and is heading to the University of Oxford to study human sciences.
• George Green secured distinctions in his media and film qualifications and will be taking up employment with Green Future Investments (GFI) this summer.
Director of Sixth Form at Sharnbrook Academy, Daniel Baxby, said: “We are extremely pleased and proud of the results our students have achieved. The determination they have shown over the last two years has been rightly rewarded.
“We have students going to a range of destinations including record numbers to Oxbridge, as well as other universities across the UK and abroad. We also have a number of students who have secured prestigious graduate level apprenticeship opportunities through our extensive regional, national and international partnerships.”

St. Thomas More
It has been all smiles and tears of joy at St Thomas More this morning as the “wonderful” Year 13 students have received great results for “which they have worked so hard”.
A spokesperson for the school said: “The vast majority of our students have received their first choice with others getting offers for excellent courses that will be perfect for the next stage in their journeys.
“Some students are pursuing other routes and have achieved the grades they need for work and apprenticeships.”
The school is said to have been buzzing as the students have celebrated alongside their teachers and shared in the joy and satisfaction that comes with a job well done.

Wixams Academy
Wixams Academy says they are thrilled to congratulate their first-ever Year 13 students on their A-level achievements this year, saying, “Their hard work, dedication, and determination have paid off, leading to outstanding results across a variety of subjects”.
They also thanked their staff for “their support and guidance to this pioneer cohort”.
71% of the school’s students have been accepted by their first choice institution and 87% will attend either their first or second choices.
A special mention was given to the following students who have achieved outstanding results:
- Dylan C for achieving AAA in Biology, Chemistry, and Maths. Dylan is heading to Imperial College London to study Biochemistry.
- Kimya G or achieving AAA in Biology, Chemistry, and Maths. Kimya will be attending the University of Exeter to study Medicine.
- Oliver G for achieving ABBB in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, and Physics. Oliver is going to Loughborough University to study
Automotive Engineering. - Jack W for achieving ABB in Criminology, Law, and Sociology. Jack is heading to the University of Kent to study Advanced Legal Practice.
- Eve K for achieving AAC in Sociology, Psychology, and computer science. Eve will be attending Lancaster University to study Computer
Science.
The performance of Wixam’s Academy students also means the majority can pursue their next steps at their desired universities. The destinations of our students are as follows:
- 71% of students have secured their first-choice offer and;
- 25% of students will be attending Russell Group Universities or equivalent institutions;.
- 65% are heading off to university;
- 35% will be taking up apprenticeships.
“We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our most vulnerable students, who have made fantastic progress and are now moving forward to study for degrees in politics, biology, sports, and PE.
“Their achievements reflect their commitment, and we look forward to seeing them thrive in these fields,” said a spokesperson for the school.
