Letters: Wootton villagers create Christmas window wonderland

1096
I saw three ships come sailing in, on Christmas Day in the morning...

As so much community activity has been curtailed this year due to Covid 19, I was looking for something that the whole village could join in with in a totally safe way.

I had heard of other villages having Advent Windows or Christmas Window Trails, so I spoke to the leaders of the village churches, and between us we invited Wootton residents to decorate a window of their home, using the words of a Christmas Carol or traditional Christmas song as their inspiration.

We set up a Facebook page explaining what we were doing and asked people to post photos of their finished window, giving those unable to get out and about the chance to see them too.

We have published a list of addresses and titles so that those who are able can enjoy the windows on a stroll around the village.

The response has been amazing with over 75 homes decorating a window and the Facebook page has 200 members!

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
