Dear editor,

Cycling Campaign for North Bedfordshire (CCNB) would like to reiterate Councillor Ben Foley’s statement on considering cycling to the station in your article of 15 October 2019 on Bedford Station car parking ‘significantly reduced’ from Monday 21 October.

Read: Bedford Station car parking ‘significantly reduced’ from Monday 21 October

Bedford Station has a total of 602 cycle parking spaces (to be increased to 630 within the next 10 days). Currently up to 450 spaces are used by commuters who already cycle  to the station.

This leaves more than 150 spaces available to those living only a short distance away, and are able, to use a bike.

With money saved on car parking and fuel and feeling fitter, who knows, you may decide to continue cycling after the blockade is finished towards the end of December.

Yours,

Peter Blakeman
Chair, Cycling Campaign for North Bedfordshire

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
