After an incredible, magical, fun-filled five years, the time has come for a change. As of Easter this year, Rogan’s Books’ bookshop will close its doors.
Our aim in opening the shop was to create a space that ignited a love of reading, and inspire all readers with a range of books that celebrate diversity in all forms.
Over the years we have brought some of the UK’s most celebrated authors and illustrators to Bedford, including Chris Riddell, Philip Pullman, Nick Sharratt, Cressida Cowell, and Kes Gray. The space has become a community hub, bringing people together and growing into something bigger than a retail space.
However, the cost of keeping an independent bookshop going in the town has become harder and harder to manage.
We have worked tirelessly to keep the shop alive, but increasingly we have been spending more time and energy on firefighting, rather than focusing on delivering inspirational events and activities.
The good news is that this is not the end.
We’re working with the biggest publishers in the UK to deliver a programme of literary events for children AND adults, both as part of the Rogan’s Books brand and through our annual children’s book festival, BookTastic.
We’re still taking authors and illustrators into schools, and we will continue to make Bedford a hub of literary activity.

Our customers have become friends who have been part of our adventure. Our community has shaped what we have become. Our story has been filled with amazing moments that we’ve shared with you all, and we are so grateful to everyone for helping to create a special place in Bedford.
It has been an experience that we will remember forever, and we hope you will too.
Rogan’s Books will close at Easter, on Saturday 4 April. The lease runs out on 5 September 2020.
The lease is available for assignment for this 5-month period, after which the assignee may take over the lease for an agreed period with the landlord.
There is currently a list of interested parties with the landlord – anyone taking over the assignment would automatically have the right to maintain the lease from 5 September. For more information contact the owner at email@example.com
