Dear editor,

Bedford Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament has always appreciated the Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s support for what we aim to do, which is to uphold the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, brought into international law in January this year.

It was disappointing therefore to see Mayor Dave’s warm welcome for Leidos the new company operating in the Bedford Link Park on the edge of Bedford.

Leidos say they are among other things ‘providing expertise in nuclear weapons research and development’.

Instead of welcoming this company with open arms, it would be great if Bedford could proudly join the ranks of Nuclear Free Local Authorities (NFLA) and other councils working for a renewable, safe and peaceful future.

On Hiroshima Day, August 6th and forever, let us be honest about what nuclear weapons are and what they have done and can still do.

Yours sincerely,
