Bromham Bridge replacement

Network Rail is inviting residents in Bedford to find out more about the next stage of work to upgrade Bromham Road bridge, as part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade.

Starting on Monday, 27 January, Network Rail engineers will be on site overnight during the week to carry out work to the embankment, as well as to reinstate utilities back into the bridge.

This stage of the project will take six weeks to complete. This overnight work is in addition to the current day time work which is taking place.

On Wednesday 29 January, Network Rail is holding a public information event at Bedford Station for those wishing to find out more about the project.

Between 4pm and 7pm, Network Rail workers will be on hand to answer any questions which residents may have.

There will also be three times when overnight weekend work is required. This will take place on the following dates and times:

  • 23:00 Saturday, 1 February to 23:00 Sunday, 2 February
  • 00:00 Saturday, 15 February to 04:00 Monday, 16 February
  • 00:00 Saturday, 22 February to 04:00 Monday, 24 February

Network Rail have written to residents in the area advising them of the overnight work and will work hard to keep noise during this time to a minimum.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
