The Bedford and Kempston Labour Party has announced its candidate for the upcoming by-election in Riverfield Ward on 2 May 2024.

Warwick Mackie lives in Bedford and says he will seek to tackle regular speeding in the area as well as lack of road maintenance and anti-social behaviour.

“I am standing as a candidate as there is much to do in the Riverfield Drive, Barkers Lane, Wendover Drive area,” he said.

“I will support local residents to help make the area better and I will ensure they have someone they can rely on when things get tough, someone who will stand up for residents for a full councillor term.

“Residents are really worried about the cost of living crisis and are often just one unexpected bill away from real trouble. I think ultimately people are tired of being talked to and want someone who will listen first.

“That’s why I’ve committed to regularly consulting with local residents about what they want in our area. I want residents to be in the driving seat with a councillor focused on delivering on their priorities.

“I work in healthcare logistics supporting the NHS. In my job I am trusted to ensure that vital medical supplies reach NHS services when they need them.

“Being able to prioritise effectively and put people first are skills that I believe I have strengthened through this role and will be beneficial to me as a councillor representing Riverfield ward.

“People want someone who can get things done and I have a proven track record of delivering what’s needed.”
