Kimbolton Road is to be closed for four months so Anglia Water can replace the water main from Ravensden water tower to the bottom of Nags Head Hill.
The work will take six months in total, beginning on 7 February with a two-way traffic light system in place on Nags Head Hill, Kimbolton Road (B660) in Wilden until 14 April.
From 19 April, the section of Kimbolton Road (B660) between the Water Tower and Shrubbery Lane will then be closed to all traffic until 19 August.
This is to help keep the workforce and pedestrians safe while the works are being carried out.
Access to properties and businesses within this road closure will be maintained throughout the road closure.
Anglia Water says this £600,000 investment scheme will see “brand new water pipes laid, helping to reduce the risk of burst pipes, low pressure and interruptions to supply for customers in the future.”
Nicola Harvey, Anglian Water spokesperson, added, “we are aware that this work will cause some disruption to road users, and we have looked at mitigation options and will be using directional drilling technology to install pipes underground to reduce the number of excavations required.
“Plus, our teams will be utilising seven days working where possible and appropriate in order to reduce the duration and inconvenience of the traffic management provisions.”
