At 10am on Wednesday 24 February, 13 presenters from Hospital Radio Bedford (HRB) will begin broadcasting live and non-stop for 24 hours to support a charity fundraiser.
The challenge is in aid of the Bedford Hospital & Friends Charity’s £1m appeal towards the construction of a new, purpose-built paediatric A&E department as well as provide the current A&E department with a new CT scanner.
The 13 HRB presenters will be hosting 24-hours of continuous back-to-back shows filled with music, chat, dedications and prize giveaways all aimed at raising awareness of the appeal and encouraging donations.
“I’m looking forward to the prospect of helping out to raise the profile of the appeal for Bedford Hospital A&E Department and to encourage listeners to donate towards new equipment needed, whilst also helping to raise the profile of Hospital Radio Bedford of course,” said HRB treasurer, Sue Conyers.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to be part of a charitable event like this and seeing see your ideas become a reality,” said Geoff White, HRB’s assistant programming officer.
HRB volunteer, Laura Taylor, has first-hand experience of the current children’s A&E department at Bedford Hospital so knows only too well how much a new facility is needed.
“Any improvement to the paediatric area in A&E will make such a difference to the children when they are at their most vulnerable.
“Any parent would be grateful of an environment that in some way calms their child when they are pain, rather than heightens their distress.
“This is such a worthy cause, to enhance a place that is every parents worst nightmare.”
To make a donation to the appeal you can visit the Bedford Hospital & Friends Charity website, visit the Hospital Radio Bedford website or text BEDFORD followed by the amount you’d like to donate to 70085.
