Two teenagers from Wixams have been honoured with the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire’s ‘Young Person’s Citizenship Award’ for North Bedfordshire.
Naima Khanom and Emma Chamberlain, both 14, are volunteers for the Bedford-based Caring for Humanity charity.
On Wednesday 15 March, the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Lady Jane Clifford, presented the girls with their award in recognition of their exceptional efforts to raise money for charity and donate to “exceptional causes” such as period poverty and for school educational supplies.
Throughout 2022, Emma and Naima raised £2,000 for charitable causes in countries such as Bangladesh and Ukraine. Naima and Emma volunteer every week to plan, market and execute their fundraising efforts, all for the sake of charity.
“They both have made an outstanding contribution and devoted their time and energy to improving the communities to the best of their ability by working voluntarily for Caring For Humanity,” said a spokesperson for the charity.
“Their efforts have provided winter blankets, sanitary and care products such as painkillers and skincare, and school bags and stationery for disadvantaged children in Bangladesh.
“Naima Khanom and Emma Chamberlain’s willingness, determination and caring attitude in everything they do and achieve is an inspiration to others. They encourage and inspire young people like themselves to partake in selfless charity.”
Emma and Naima have partnered with Caring for Humanity on many fundraisers including their Summer fête in May 2022, in which they raised more than £1,100.
