Bedford Borough Council has confirmed that its green bin collections will continue into early December after driver shortages have meant that some bins haven’t been collected on recent rounds.
Residents in some areas of the Borough had raised concerns after their green bins hadn’t been emptied on the scheduled days. They’ve been advised to leave their bin out safely to await collection.
In a statement to the Bedford Independent, a spokesperson for the council said: “Due to a national shortage of HGV drivers, the Council’s bin collection rounds are under unusually high pressure.
“Priority black bin and orange recycling bins will continue to be collected as normal, while residents may experience a delay to their green garden waste bin collection.”
While green bin collections finish for winter at the end of November, the Borough’s crews will continue collecting into early December to ensure everyone receives their final collection of the year.
“If your green bin collection is missed, please leave it out in a safe area and we will collect it as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience.”
