A drab wall on St Cuthbert’s Street has been given a new lease of life thanks to the owners of Herd and one of their creative customers.
Artist Amy Yearley is a regular at the restaurant and bar and already works closely with owners Matt and Jess Wolton on their event flyers and posters.
“When Herd redid their interior recently it looked amazing, but then the patio area looked a bit tired,” said Amy. “So I sort of volunteered to brighten it up.
“I tried to make the design harmonise with the interior. Definitely wanted to add a splash of colour and bring a party vibe out there to suit the atmosphere of the bar.”
St Cuthbert’s Street is home to many of Bedford’s most well-loved independent businesses including The Store, Beerfly and Roosters.
The new mural complements the living wall installed by Rosanna at The Store last summer.

Matt Wolton, owner of Herd, said: “I’m so pleased with what Amy and her team have done. It was all her vision, even the idea of the mural itself.
“Amy does a lot of the artwork for us and I always trust her to do something amazing – but this time she has really surpassed herself.
“It’s really brought our courtyard to life.”
Amy was helped in her endeavour by friends Kristina Bullen, Jordan Steeds and Katie Steeds and she said she would have been lost without their help.
“The response has been really wonderful and humbling,” said Amy.
“It was such an enjoyable experience and I’ve learnt a lot.
“I love seeing wall art around Bedford and it’s something that seems to be slowly growing. It would be amazing for the town to get a reputation for it – there’s a brilliant creative scene locally so to me, it makes complete sense to paint the town.”
