Head to Harpur Square to give the Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge a warm welcome

Rickshaw Challenge

The BBC Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge will ride into Harpur Square at 7pm this evening and they’re hoping for a warm Bedford welcome.

A team of six young people and The One Show’s Matt Baker have taken on the eight day challenge to cycle 400 miles from Holyhead to London.

Today, the team will leave Melton Mowbray and pedal the 46 miles to Bedford. You can track their live progress here.

They’ll arrive in Bedford at 7pm in time to be interviewed live on the One Show from Harpur Square.

The team will arrive right in the middle of Pudsey’s face at 7pm…

Supporters are encouraged to gather in Harpur Square from 6.30pm and the Eat Feast street food traders and free children’s activities will be on Riverside Square from 4 – 9pm.

The Bedford Independent will be reporting live from the event.

Car parking is free in town centre car parks after 6pm (with the exception of River Street Car Park). Expect road closures in the area.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
