In2Beats 106.5 FM presenters DJ Stevo and Danii are waiting to hear if they’ve broken the world record for longest marathon for a radio music show DJ team.
The challenge was to be on-air continuously for as long as possible. The Current record, coincidentally, is 106 hours and 50 minutes, which is the same FM frequency of In2Beats, which is on 106.5fm.
The Bedford based team, who were raising money and awareness of the @King’King’s Arms Project, managed to broadcast for even longer, remaining on air for 107 hours and 42 minutes.
The rules of the challenge are that they are only allowed a few minutes break each hour, and they can use this to freshen up or have a very short power nap if needed. We caught up with the team during their challenge and at the time Danii says this wasn’t always the best plan “I’d have 5 minutes sleep and then take another hour to stop feeling like a zombie, so I think I’ll just stay awake.”
Steve also started having hallucinations, imagining a group of strange, shadowy people wherever he looked. Despite this though, they completed their challenge on Friday 5th October. They now have to collate all the data and recordings of the show and wait for the record to be signed off by officials at Guinness World Records, which can take a few weeks.
Through their sleep deprivation, DJ Stevo and Danii had nothing but praise for the people who had helped them along the way “We’ve had so much support” they said “Watton Recruitment Ltd have provided witnesses 24/7, The Tavistock Pub & Carvery have asked us if we want breakfast every morning, other In2Beats staff have come in to keep us company and we’ve had guests from all over Bedford come and make sure we’re ok. McDonald’s Bedford High Street have also donated meals and support for the challenge and the King’s Arms Project which helps homeless people around Bedford.”
The record is currently held by Nivedita Karthikeyan and Pradeep Sivalingam, on Radio Gilli 106.5 FM, in Dubai, UAE. They only recently secured the record, when they ran a non-stop show from 7 to 11 May 2018
